...The Mountain of Seven Gables by Earl Rogers

Disillusioned Vietnam War vet Josh Gibson goes soul searching during a month-long trek along the John Muir Trail.

Reverend Daniel Buringrud

...I thought The Mountain of Seven gables was an inspiring story of sin and redemption, confession and absolution, and the triumph of the human spirit. It speaks to the longing that we all have to find peace and happiness and meaning in our lives and what happens when we take shortcuts that do not honor the longing. Most importantly, it accurately reflects that grace of a loving Father who forgives us and makes us whole in spite of ourselves.

I just finished reading your book, The Mountain of Seven Gables. Wonderful & inspirational. Loved it. We do have a Father that loves us always. ... Keep on writing. The world needs good writers.

I enjoyed The Mountain of Seven Gables very much. I'm not a hiker, but felt the majesty of the trail in your writing. Becky was my favorite character. It took Josh going thru the trials of the trail, before I actually liked him. Nice variety of personalities and issues. I have recommended and passed the book on.

I enjoyed "seven gables" very much. ...once I got into it, it was hard to put down. It brought back the old camping, hiking days when the kids were young. Now, when I climb Little Neck road with Pablo, I imagine I'm on the Muir trail and it doesn't seen so arduous.

Earl, you are a fantastic writer. I couldn't put the Mountain of Seven Gables down until I finished it.

I finished the book last night. I couldn’t put it down. Not only was it a good read, it was doubly interesting because I recognized some of the events and people that inspired the creation of the characters in the book.

Having just completed the 2 sections of the JMT from Red's Meadow to Florence Lake, your book came at a great time for reminiscing.
I too appreciate the story of sins and redemption given up to and received from the trail.
The lives of Josh and Saul were intertwined with mine and my husbands as he comes from a family in Tomales Bay and we too live in West Los Angeles.
Thank You for a great read and one that I will gladly read again and again and suggest to anyone who is looking for a good read and information about the JMT.
